SLAMTEC RPLIDAR S3 is a new generation of 2D laser scanners with direct time-of-flight (dToF) technology. The model provides a stable scanning range of up to 40 meters at 70% reflectivity and up to 15 meters for objects with low reflectivity (10%).

With a sampling rate of 32,000 points per second and angular resolution of up to 0.1125°, the lidar generates a detailed point cloud for mapping, navigation and detection of small objects. With a compact body of just 41 mm and a weight of 115 g, the S3 is the smallest lidar in the SLAMTEC range. This makes it easy to integrate into any mobile platform.

How RPLIDAR S3 lidar works

The lidar uses SL-TOF technology, SLAMTEC's own development based on direct measurement of the time of flight of a laser pulse. The device emits modulated laser pulses, measures the time of their return from objects and calculates the distance with an accuracy of ±30 mm.

The rotating mechanism provides a full 360° view with a typical scanning frequency of 10 Hz (up to 20 Hz). The built-in processor generates a 2D map of the environment in real time. Data is transmitted via the TTL UART interface at a speed of 1 Mbit/s. Class 1 laser is safe for the eyes. Due to its high resistance to external illumination, the lidar maintains accuracy even in direct sunlight.
