The essence of the work and the principle of stabilization
This is a pulse step-down voltage stabilizer (Step-Down BEC). It receives high voltage from the battery power assembly. Internal circuitry converts it to stable 5V or 6V. Conversion occurs at high frequency with minimal losses. At the output, the module produces pure direct current up to 12 amperes. This allows you to power multiple power-hungry devices simultaneously.
Technical characteristics and scope
The FATJAY 12A module works with 2S-6S lithium polymer batteries. Input voltage can vary from 7V to 26V. Output voltage is fixed 5V or 6V depending on the version. Maximum output current is 12 amperes in continuous mode. This power is sufficient for most modern drones.
This UBEC is required for drones with digital FPV systems like the DJI Air Unit. Such systems consume significant current and are critical to power quality. The module is also indispensable when using many servos or powerful LEDs. It is required for aircraft flying on 4S batteries and higher. Direct connection of electronics to such batteries is not permitted.
Connecting the module is intuitive and does not require soldering. The input (IN) is connected to the main connector of the power battery through a splitter. The output (OUT) is fed to the power bus of the flight controller or distribution. It is extremely important to observe the correct polarity of connecting wires. It is recommended to secure the module with a thermal pad or tape.
Before installation, calculate the total consumption of your on-board electronics. Make sure it does not exceed 12 amps with a 20% margin. Using an external UBEC takes the load off the ESCs. This increases their reliability and reduces overall system heating. After installation, check the output voltage with a multimeter.
