How does this multi-function communication module work?
The module works as a full-fledged cellular modem and navigation receiver. After installing the SIM card, it connects to the operator's network. Similar to a smartphone, it provides Internet access. At the same time, the built-in GNSS chip receives satellite signals. It calculates the exact coordinates, speed and altitude of the device.
Data is transferred to the Jetson Nano main processor via the serial port. Software on the Nano processes this information. You can send telemetry to the server or control the device via the Internet. Navigation data is used for autonomous navigation to points. This creates the basis for smart machines that operate without constant human supervision.
Technical characteristics and scope
The module is based on the popular SIMCom SIM7600E chipset. It supports LTE Cat-4 standards with speeds up to 150 Mbps downstream. Older 3G (UMTS) and 2G (GSM) networks also operate for maximum coverage. The GNSS part supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou systems. This ensures fast and accurate positioning anywhere in the world.
Power is supplied directly from the Jetson Nano connector. To work on a 4G network, it is recommended to use a powerful source. The board has connectors for connecting external antennas. Typically two antennas are required: one for cellular and one for GNSS. There are also audio jacks for voice communication and a microphone.
Software integration is carried out through standard drivers. Ready-made scripts for configuration and management are available in the community. The module can operate as a network device via the PPP protocol. Or used directly via AT commands for complete control. This gives you flexibility in developing software to suit your needs.
