Operating principle and data accuracy
The Ouster OS-1 lidar belongs to a class of mechanical scanners that rotate to obtain a full panorama. The device uses proprietary VCSEL laser and SPAD diode technology inside to produce millions of points per second with exceptional clarity . The highest vertical resolution is ensured by the presence of 16, 32 or 64 measurement channels, depending on the modification.
Built-in navigation algorithms allow lidar to be easily integrated into SLAM systems for simultaneous mapping and positioning. The device produces not only a point cloud, but also a 2D reflectivity image, which facilitates calibration and visual inspection.
Specifications and capabilities
Explore detailed parameters of the Ouster OS-1 lidar. The maximum measurement range is up to 200 meters for reflective objects, and the accuracy is within 1.5–5 cm depending on conditions. The vertical viewing angle reaches 45 degrees, which is significantly higher than many competitors. The scanning frequency is adjustable up to 20 Hz, allowing you to adapt the device to the dynamics of your drone.
The module uses an eye-safe Class 1 laser with a wavelength of 865 nm. Power is supplied from a 12–24 V source with a power consumption of up to 14–20 W. The compact body with dimensions of about 100x100x100 mm weighs only 0.75 kg, which does not create excessive load on the drone.
The device can operate at temperatures from –10°C to +50°C, and in versions with improved protection up to –40°C. Built-in time synchronization capability allows data from multiple sensors to be combined into a single system.
