Operating principle and technical capabilities
The VB50A lidar measures distance using the pulsed time-of-flight (ToF) method. The laser diode generates a short light pulse with a wavelength of 905 nm. The time it takes for the reflected signal to return to the sensor is converted into the exact distance to the object. A narrow field of view of 1.9 degrees allows you to focus on a specific point.
The measurement accuracy is ±5 cm at a distance of up to 5 meters and 1% of the distance at longer distances. The repeatability of measurements reaches ±30 mm. High frequency of 100 Hz makes it possible to track fast moving objects.
Technical characteristics and areas of application
The device is powered by 3.3-5V DC. Peak current consumption is 70 mA at 5 V, average - 40 mA. Average power consumption does not exceed 0.2 W, which is critical for battery systems. UART and I²C interfaces provide flexible connectivity to popular platforms including Arduino, STM32 and Raspberry Pi. The operating temperature range from -20 to +60°C allows the sensor to be used in various climatic conditions.
The VB50A lidar is ideal for unmanned aerial vehicles. It provides precise altitude hold and obstacle detection during landing. In robotics, the device is used for navigation, mapping and measuring distances to objects. Widely used in automation systems, security systems and logistics. Its ease of integration and open documentation make it a great choice for developers.
