How does an in-circuit programmer work?

The cable is connected to the USB port of the computer. The second end connects to the target board via JTAG. The programmer determines the supply voltage of the target microcircuit. You are running Xilinx iMPACT or ChipScope. The software sends the bit file through the programmer. Data is written to flash or directly to the FPGA. The firmware process takes seconds.

Technical characteristics and functionality

The DLC9LP programmer operates with voltages of 1.5–5 V. The maximum TCK frequency reaches 24 MHz. Transfer speed in Slave Serial mode is up to 24 Mbit/s. The CY7C68013A + XC2C256 chipset is installed inside. This is a complete analogue of the original Xilinx cable.

All modes are supported: JTAG, Slave Serial and SPI. Compatible with Xilinx ISE software version 6.3 and later. Works with iMPACT and ChipScope Analyzer. Supports Windows XP, 7, 8, 10 and Linux (Red Hat, SUSE). The dimensions of the programmer are approximately 110x50x20 mm. The weight of the device is 80 grams.

The kit includes the programmer itself and a USB 2.0 Type-A cable. There is a 1-to-3 adapter for connecting different cables. The set includes four cables: 14-pin, 10-pin, 6-pin and 8-pin. Contact spacing is 2.54 mm and 2.0 mm. This is sufficient for any Xilinx board.
