How the tBeacon Onyx 2 search beacon works

The beacon is activated by a call from a walkie-talkie or by a timer. In standby mode, it consumes almost no energy and does not interfere with on-board electronics. When activated, the built-in GPS determines the coordinates, and the beacon transmits them by voice over the air. You enter these coordinates into the navigator and find the drone. If the satellite signal is unavailable, the beacon operates in “fox hunting” mode: you determine the direction to the object based on the strength of the radio signal.

The built-in tweeter and powerful LED help in the short range. For ultra-long-range searches, use the air repeater mode, which detects the beacon from a distance of more than 20 kilometers. Findy Series devices connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth for intuitive control and real-time tracking.

The tBeacon Onyx 2 beacon is equipped with a built-in GPS and GLONASS receiver. The search range using a radio station is from 500 meters to 10 kilometers depending on conditions. In repeater mode, the range exceeds 20 kilometers. Built-in 150 mAh lithium polymer battery provides up to 14 days of standby time. Full charging time is about 2 hours.

The beacon supports several search modes: voice broadcast of coordinates, direction finding via radio signal (CW), short-range search by sound and light, as well as RTTY mode with decoding via a smartphone. Setup is done via a cross-platform web application. Control is carried out by a button on the case, automatic switching on and contactless switching off are also available. USB-C port is used for charging, setup and firmware updates. The beacon comes with a battery and heat shrink tubing.
