This module provides your computing system with mobile Internet and satellite navigation. It allows a drone or robot to transmit data over long distances. You will be able to receive telemetry and real-time video. You will also be able to accurately determine the location of the device on the map. This is an important step towards creating a full-fledged autonomous platform.
This HAT module is designed to expand the capabilities of Jetson Nano boards. It is easily installed on top and connected via standard interfaces. The device supports all modern cellular networks and global navigation systems. Your project will receive communication with the outside world without being tied to Wi-Fi. This opens up new possibilities for remote control and monitoring.
Comprehensive support for 4G, 3G, 2G networks for communication in any coverage area.
Built-in high-precision GNSS receiver with support for GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou.
Full hardware and software compatibility with Jetson Nano.
Reliable data connection and voice communications.
Ability to operate in extreme temperature ranges.
The module works as a full-fledged cellular modem and navigation receiver. After installing the SIM card, it connects to the operator's network. Similar to a smartphone, it provides Internet access. At the same time, the built-in GNSS chip receives satellite signals. It calculates the exact coordinates, speed and altitude of the device.
Data is transferred to the Jetson Nano main processor via the serial port. Software on the Nano processes this information. You can send telemetry to the server or control the device via the Internet. Navigation data is used for autonomous navigation to points. This creates the basis for smart machines that operate without constant human supervision.
The module is based on the popular SIMCom SIM7600E chipset. It supports LTE Cat-4 standards with speeds up to 150 Mbps downstream. Older 3G (UMTS) and 2G (GSM) networks also operate for maximum coverage. The GNSS part supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou systems. This ensures fast and accurate positioning anywhere in the world.
Power is supplied directly from the Jetson Nano connector. To work on a 4G network, it is recommended to use a powerful source. The board has connectors for connecting external antennas. Typically two antennas are required: one for cellular and one for GNSS. There are also audio jacks for voice communication and a microphone.
Software integration is carried out through standard drivers. Ready-made scripts for configuration and management are available in the community. The module can operate as a network device via the PPP protocol. Or used directly via AT commands for complete control. This gives you flexibility in developing software to suit your needs.
The main area of application is mobile robots and unmanned vehicles. The module is ideal for drones performing long inspection missions. It allows you to track them on the map and load new tasks while in flight. It is also suitable for ground robots and autonomous boats. Any project that requires outdoor communication and navigation will benefit from this module.
To work, you will need an active SIM card with an Internet tariff. Make sure your operator supports the frequencies you need in your area. The module works best with external antennas placed on the body. This significantly improves signal quality and connection reliability. Correctly setting up an operator's APN is critical to accessing the network.
