Operating principle and computing capabilities
Radxa NX5 is a system-on-a-module that contains the processor, RAM, storage and power module on a single compact board measuring just 70x45mm. This approach allows developers to use off-the-shelf computing power in their own projects by simply adding the required peripheral card. The Rockchip RK3588S processor with big.LITTLE architecture dynamically distributes the load between powerful and energy-efficient cores. This ensures maximum performance when you need it and energy savings when not in use.
The built-in NPU with 6 TOPS performance supports INT4/INT8/INT16/FP16/BF16 and TF32 formats, allowing you to perform neural network inference locally without going to the cloud. The Arm Mali-G610 MP4 graphics subsystem supports modern APIs including OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.2 and Vulkan 1.2 . The hardware video decoder is capable of processing 8K@60fps video in H.265, VP9, AV1 formats, and the encoder is capable of up to 8K@30fps.
Technical characteristics and interfaces
Explore the rich connectivity capabilities of the Radxa NX5. LPDDR4X memory is available in 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 GB configurations. The built-in eMMC 5.1 storage can be up to 512 GB. The module has two USB 2.0 Host ports, one USB 3.0 Host and one USB 3.0 OTG.
Two SATA ports and two PCIe 2.0 ports are available for connecting storage devices. Peripheral interfaces include up to 10 UART, up to 5 SPI, up to 3 CAN, up to 7 I2C and up to 15 PWM . Video outputs include HDMI 2.1 up to 8K@60Hz, eDP up to 4K@60Hz and 2-line MIPI DSI . MIPI CSI interfaces are provided for cameras.
The module is powered by 5 V DC. Unlike a full board, NX5 requires installation on a carrier board to access all interfaces. The module is compatible with media designed for Nvidia Jetson Nano, TX2 NX and XAVIER NX. This makes integration into existing projects easier.
Areas of application and operation
The Radxa NX5 RK3588S board is ideal for creating compact industrial controllers, robots, smart video surveillance systems and network storage. The ability to connect up to three CAN buses and multiple I/O interfaces makes it an excellent choice for automation and transportation applications. 8K video support opens up possibilities for professional multimedia systems and digital kiosks.
Supports operating systems include Debian, Ubuntu and Android. The module will be produced at least until September 2033. This guarantees long-term availability for industrial projects.
