Operating principle and included technologies
The Yahboom PALMSLAM 4ROS kit combines key components to build a simultaneous localization and mapping system. A laser rangefinder (LiDAR) with a 360° viewing angle and a range of up to 30 meters scans the area. The built-in ESP32 controller collects this data, as well as information from the 6-axis IMU, and transmits it via Wi-Fi (UDP protocol) to the control computer.
The receiving end can run a Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, RDK, or a regular PC. For work, a specialized ROS2 Humble image is used, which is already configured to receive data. The complex can be controlled via an application on iOS or Android, and an OLED screen and a sound signal are used for visual control.
Specifications and Applications
The kit is ideal for developing navigation systems for autonomous robots and ground platforms. The built-in 7.4 V battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh allows you to conduct long-term tests without connecting to the network. The kit includes mounts for all supported LiDARs and the necessary cables. With flexible connectivity, you can choose the most suitable lidar for your application. PALMSLAM 4ROS is an excellent starting platform for learning ROS2 and SLAM algorithms, and can also be used in industrial system prototypes.
