DJI RC Plus Remote Control - Control Features
The modernization affected not only UAVs, but primarily their components and controls. The latest device for automated flights and complex missions in the air is the DJI RC Plus remote control. More about it today in our review.
The quadcopter remote control is the most important control element of the drone. It is needed for navigation, movement settings, shooting modes, accident response and other instructions. Each drone is supplied to the user with a transmitter or remote control. The specific features of this device vary depending on the drone you purchase. However, each remote control has basic functions. First of all, launching and landing the drone, rotating around its axis, moving back and forth.
Like drones, control panels are created manually by radio electronics enthusiasts and avid FPV players. But you need to understand that those collected “on the knee” may often not suit the needs of the majority. If the remote is too small or large, the response of the joysticks will be too slow or fast. A screen with a low-quality sensor or an inconvenient mount for a smartphone will make controlling the drone a chore.
Scope of use and capabilities
When it comes to using UAV in industrial sectors, the control panel must be a turnkey solution. Energy security specialists, surveyors or intelligence officers do not always have the time and opportunity to delve into manuals. The client is offered to buy the entire set of equipment at once, which is fully integrated into the ecosystem and works flawlessly.
DJI Ecosystem
The leader of such solutions is the Chinese company DJI. They were the first to create a unique ecosystem. Take, for example, the flagship of industrial multi-rotor systems - DJI Matrice 300 RTK. Depending on the goals and objectives, the aircraft can be supplied in various configurations. The range of industries where the device can be used is literally unlimited.
For example, for inspection of power transmission towers. There, it is usually required to perform the maximum number of long-distance flights in one shift. For such purposes, you will need a camera with a good zoom, a thermal imager and a large supply of batteries. In this case, the specialist should also have an H20T thermal imaging camera in the M300 RTK kit. In one gimbal there is a 23x optical zoom, a wide-angle camera, a laser rangefinder and a thermal imager. And also:
- charging hub PART06-BS60.
- 4-8 TB60 batteries.
- 2-4 DJI CrystalSky/Cendence WB37 batteries for the remote control.
- 2 DJI Matrice 300 Smart Controller Enterprise (Part01) and (Part02) remote controls.
If necessary, this set can be equipped with a DJI D-RTK mobile station. This will increase shooting accuracy down to the centimeter.
It is noteworthy that the DJI M300 RTK can be controlled from two remote controls at once. This is extremely convenient when you need to simultaneously control the copter and the gimbal. Or, for example, when flying long distances. One pilot can launch the drone and fly to a point within the maximum signal range. The next pilot will take control and send the drone on its next mission, after replacing the battery. Finally, it is a flexible solution for working in areas with unstable communications and interference. And that's not all the capabilities of the DJI Smart Controller. If desired, you can display a picture from one remote control on a large TV screen.
New DJI RC Plus Controller
DJI RC Plus was introduced simultaneously with the new commercial platform DJI Matrice 30. The new drone is more compact and has many features that the previous model does not have.
Screen
The first is a huge built-in 7-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels and a high brightness of 1200 nits. For comparison, the screen of the old DJI Matrice 300 Smart Controller is 5.5 inches and has a resolution of 1080.
Management
The new remote control has more buttons responsible for basic functions - as many as 6 pieces. Thus, having previously practiced, you can later switch modes automatically, even without looking at the controller. There are also more customizable buttons that you can completely customize to your needs.
Do not forget that the controller has a large and extremely sensitive touch display. The main screen contains all the main modes and functions. This makes it possible to control flight settings and camera modes with one touch.
Remote control protection
DJI RC Plus is designed to be used in bad weather. Most drones in the industrial segment can fly in both rain and strong winds. The DJI RC Plus is IP54 rated, making it waterproof and dustproof. It can operate in a temperature range from -20°C to +50°C.
Autonomous operation
The new DJI RC Plus is equipped with an internal and external battery. This is necessary for the so-called hot battery replacement. When the external battery runs out, you can replace it with a new one, without having to completely disconnect the controller. This allows you to keep all settings and flight maps unchanged. In this mode, the remote control can operate for up to 6 hours without recharging.
Uninterrupted communication with the drone
- Advanced image transmission system OcuSync 3 Enterprise.
- 4 antennas.
- Optional DJI 4G Cellular Module.
