How the NanoPi M6 microcomputer works

You connect USB-C PD power (6-20V). Install the operating system on an eMMC module, microSD or NVMe SSD. The board boots up and works like a full-fledged computer. The CPU processes the data, the GPU renders the graphics, and the NPU accelerates the AI algorithms. You can connect a monitor via HDMI 2.1 (up to 8K@60Hz) or a display via MIPI-DSI. GPIO pins control external devices.

Technical characteristics and functionality

The NanoPi M6 model is built on the Rockchip RK3588S SoC. The processor has 8 cores: 4x Cortex-A76 (2.4 GHz) for high performance and 4x Cortex-A55 (1.8 GHz) for energy efficiency. The Mali-G610 MP4 GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.2 and OpenCL 2.2. The video processor decodes 8K video at 60 frames per second (H.265, VP9) and 8K at 30 (H.264). The encoder allows you to record 8K video. The NPU provides 6 TOPS performance for neural networks.

The board is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port, one USB 3.0 Type-A and two USB 2.0 Type-A. The M.2 M-Key slot with PCIe 2.1 x1 connects an NVMe SSD of 2280 format. The M.2 E-Key slot with PCIe and USB 2.0 is designed for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. MicroSD cards up to SDR104 mode are supported.

HDMI 2.1 video output supports resolutions up to 7680x4320@60Hz with 10-bit color. Two 4-channel MIPI-DSI connect displays. Two MIPI-CSI inputs work with cameras. The 30-pin GPIO provides SPI, 6x UART, 3x I2C, SPDIF, 4x PWM and 20 GPIO. Powered via USB-C with Power Delivery (6-20V). Board size 62x90 mm. Operating temperature from 0 to 70°C.
