Choosing Capacity & S Count
Capacity determines flight time; S count determines voltage and current. Higher voltage (6S vs 4S) reduces current draw for the same power — less heat, smaller wires, longer flight. Match S count to motor/ESC specifications. 4S for 5" FPV; 6S for long-range; 12S for industrial.
Battery Maintenance & Lifespan
Expect 200-300 cycles before capacity drops below 80%. Track internal resistance (IR) — replace cells when IR exceeds 15mΩ. Never discharge below 3.5V/cell under load. Never charge unattended. Storage voltage (3.8V) if not flying within 3 days. Puffing means immediate retirement.
Safety & Transport
LiPo fires are caused by physical damage, overcharging, or short circuits. Use LiPo-safe bags for charging/storage. Have a Class D fire extinguisher or sand bucket. For air travel: carry-on only, <100Wh no approval, 100-160Wh airline approval, discharge to 30-50%.
