How the TFS20-L lidar works
The device measures distance using the Time-of-Flight method. The VCSEL laser emits short pulses. The sensor detects the beam return time. Electronics calculates the distance to the object. Data is transmitted via UART or I2C. You get up to 250 samples per second.
Technical characteristics and functionality
The TFS20-L model has a working range of 0.2–20 meters. In bright light of 100 klx the range is reduced. Accuracy up to 6 centimeters at distances up to 6 meters. Repeatability is only 2 centimeters. The resolution of the device is 1 centimeter. The frame rate is programmable at 0, 20, 50, 100 or 250 Hz.
The 905nm Class 1 laser is safe for the eyes. Beam divergence angle (FoV) is less than 2 degrees. Power is supplied from 3.3 volts. Peak current consumption does not exceed 130 mA. The power of the device is only 0.43 watts. The operating temperature ranges from -20 to +60°C. Sensor dimensions 21×15×7.87 millimeters. Supported interfaces: UART (115200 baud) and I2C (up to 400 kbit/s). The default I2C address is 0x10.
