How the Boson+ 640 thermal imaging module works

An uncooled vanadium oxide (VOx) microbolometer with a pixel pitch of 12 µm detects infrared radiation in the range of 8-14 µm. Each pixel of the 640×512 matrix converts thermal energy into an electrical signal. Built-in processor with advanced Automatic Gain Control (AGC) algorithm produces detailed images with high contrast.

Frame rates reach up to 60Hz for smooth, lag-free video. Data is transferred via USB or MIPI interfaces for integration with image processing systems.

Technical characteristics and functionality

The Boson+ 640 module has a resolution of 640x512 pixels with a pitch of 12 microns. Sensitivity is ≤20 mK for Industrial Grade and ≤30 mK for Professional Grade. The frame rate reaches 60 Hz, with the ability to switch to 30 Hz. Energy consumption starts from 500 mW for the 320+ model and from 900 mW for the 640+. The weight of the module without a lens ranges from 7.5 grams, with a lens - up to 34.7 grams.

Various lens options are available with a field of view from 8° to 95°. The module supports UART, I2C, SPI, SDIO, USB and MIPI interfaces. The operating temperature range extends from -40 to +80°C. The module is manufactured in the USA and is not subject to ITAR restrictions.
