Operating principle and key technologies
The Intel 435i camera uses a stereo depth sensing principle. Two infrared sensors record the light reflected from the object. The built-in laser projector creates texture for improved grip on uniform surfaces. Algorithms process pixel displacement and calculate the distance to each point. An RGB camera with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels overlays color onto a depth map. The 9-axis IMU measures linear acceleration and angular velocity.
The combination of these sensors allows the drone to accurately determine its position in space. The depth frame rate reaches 30 fps at a resolution of 1280×720. USB 3.1 Gen1 provides high-speed data transfer to the flight controller or on-board computer.
The Intel 435i camera is ideal for implementing SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) algorithms on drones. It allows you to avoid obstacles, build 3D models of objects and perform autonomous flights indoors. Its compact weight makes it suitable for installation on drones of any class. Thanks to the open SDK, you can integrate the camera with the popular frameworks ROS, OpenCV and PCL.
